Lisa Baudoin shared a favorite title from her shop, Books & & Co., in Oconomowoc, Wis. It’s the unique “Mary Jane” by Jessica Anya Blau. The coming-of-age novel is embeded in the 1970s, as well as Baudoin says the book catches the sensation of that years– particularly the music.
Fourteen-year-old Mary Jane has a respectable-looking summer season task, babysitting for a family members down the road. Little does her straight-laced family know, the doctor that uses Mary Jane to watch his daughter is a psychiatrist, and also he’s taken in a well-known rock star for the summer to counsel him via dependency.
“There’s a lot music and so much happiness in this book, although there’s some tight spots taking place,” says Baudoin. “You get the feeling that the author is actually rooting for each personality. As well as there’s most definitely a sense of that emerging room for mental health, enthusiastic living as well as valuing points around you.”
Though the book is embeded in Baltimore, Baudoin says there’s a scene in a document shop that had her picturing the Minneapolis record store the Electric Fetus. You make MPR Information possible.
