Like many during the pandemic lockdown, singer James Blake saw friendships falter and people who were once close drift away. The grief, frustration and disappointment he felt led to his latest full-length, Friends That Break Your Heart. We give the album a listen on this week’s show, talk about the playfulness of James Blake and the chances he takes, despite the gloomy themes.
It’s a packed release day, so we’ve also got new ones from BadBadNotGood, the veteran Peruvian singer Susana Baca, Cuban party starter Cimafunk, the underground hip-hop duo Atmosphere, Reba McEntire remixed and more. WBEZ and Vocalo Radio host Ayana Contreras joins Alt.Latino’s Felix Contreras, WXPN’s John Morrison, NPR’s Ann Powers and Anamaria Sayre, along with host Robin Hilton, as they share their picks for the best albums out on Oct. 8.
